Game dev: what is it all about?

Intro

 In this course, students strengthen their core computer programming understanding by learning about, events, coordinates, variables, conditionals, functions, iteration, arrays, and artificial intelligence. Students had multiple opportunities to learn, practice, and apply these coding concepts within Minecraft: Education Edition. By understanding a multitude of programs and tricks to manipulate and control their worlds students took the time to culminate these skill by creating a mod of their own. We plan to introduce each of their creative creation and give a short tour of their projects in game.

Intermediate

In this track we’ve spent time developing games working in the c# coding language. We learned debugging, sprite manipulation, audio insertion, and honed a myriad of other technical abilities. This track is engaging and challenging as we worked tirelessly to develop games reminiscent of 1980s arcade games. These games, often with shooting systems, health trackers, and other fun to develop elements, also showed off the skills we earned in the process of the program.

Advanced

Advanced Game Development is a challenging course that tests students developer skills. Introducing them to a  team work environment and how to effectively manage their time; while working to meet an assortment of goals and due dates. Developers also work on their communication skills, having a number of development stand ups, both holding them accountable for their groups progress and introducing them to the benefits of feedback. Here we brainstorm, conceptualize, scope, develop, iterate, test, and finally build our games starting from scratch.

PROJECTS

Zahara Bascho-George’s mods

Developed an agent house, instant aquarium, clock tower, skyscraper, and a digital clock.

This is a house where the agent builds different sides of the house one by one, starting from the walls to the roof.

Cameron Moore’s mods

Developed an aquarium, bird cage, cow and horse cage, and super powers.

This is the shelter that I built with my own chat command. It is self made. This house is to let people who just started in the world to have have house and protect them from dangers outside.

Isaiah Coombs’s mods

Developed code that has an automatic house that spawns when you type the word home, code that give you tools, code that teleports you back to your house, and a nested loop in the code.

The house will be your place to stay and your shelter that will keep you protected and customize as you please and enjoy your stay.

Zatrell Newkirk’s mods

Developed wood cutter code, automatic roaming system, multidirectional detection of wood, robot gravity(able to fall down when in the air), and robot climbing.

ellis geisen’s mods

Developed code to create a house, tunnel, and horse stable.

This is the horse stable I created. I made a code to spawn a box but added the windows and door, after that I made a code to spawn in the animals at my feet when I was in the stable. 

Andrew johnson’s mods

Designed a large storage area built by an agent using chiseled stone and had the agent gather valuable items.

christian robinson’s mods

Designed an instant house, maze activity, and an instant volcano.

This my volcano that I made for my final project. The code was difficult at first but I managed to complete it. I spawned it in using a chat command.

Mekhai Robinson’s mods

Created an infinite sandstorm, a standard house, and a water and lava tower.

Enioluwafe Oluwole’s mods

Created a mod that allows them to give their agent a command, command tells the agent to create a rectangular box make out of obsidian where they can light it up to create a portal, second code allows them to spawn a specific set of blocks using the relative position of my characters location, and the blocks spawns in certain sets to form a house type building.

Harmony Venable’s mods

Created a slaughter house, a zoo, and a waterfall for the chickens.

This is my slaughter house where you kill chickens when you're in need of food.

Created an instant house, repeat loop, agent build, and an agent teleport.

Tank of the Dead

“Tank of the Dead” is a game about a war veteran struggling with nightmares that take place in a post apocalyptic zombie ridden wasteland. The game include player controlled motion, a shooting system, and a variety of pick ups. challenging and rewarding to code. Developed by William, Jaden, Talim, and Charlotte the game was challenging and rewarding to code.

Divine Donut

“The Divine Donut” is a game about Evil Donuts come to take over the world and our ordinary hero must stop the Divine Donut from winning. The game include a multiple bosses, complicated shooting programs, and  an artistic map. Developed by Mark, Amari, and Kmauri, “The Divine Donut”was a frustrating but engaging challenge to create. 

Hell’s Castle

“Hell’s Castle” is a dungeon explorer game. The game has 2 attack systems one being the regular sword attack and the other being magic spells. L.I.V.D (Lyfe Boone, Isaiah Jones, Vandrick Bryant, Dillon Moses) Challenging to make and filled with obstacles.

Capture The Flag: Ghost Destroyers

“Capture The Flag: Ghost Destroyers” is a game about players who are in a map of mazes trying to survive & kill ghosts that are coming to kill them & capture the flag in that specific maze. The game includes characters/players, different types of ghosts, map mazes, 2D lighting, shooting,& pickups. Developed by Taylor, Tobias, Amir, & Donnell, “Capture The Flag: Ghost Destroyers” was challenging & a ominous spooky game to create filled with ghosts coming your way.
